We plan to merge with Superior National Bank, headquartered in Hancock, MI in the spring of 2027, creating an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to lead the combined Trust & Wealth Management entity, with more than $600 million in assets under management. Position Summary
The Chief Trust & Wealth Management Officer is a key member of the executive leadership team, who is responsible for the overall wealth management, trust, fiduciary duties, and investment management business, including department strategy, growth, profitability, client service, and risk management. The Chief Trust & Wealth Management Officer ensures the business operates in accordance with applicable fiduciary standards, laws, regulations, and bank policies.

The position is open as the current Chief Trust & Wealth Management Officer pursues a new career direction. This position requires in-person work at one of our regions and travel among locations in Marquette, Houghton, and Dickinson counties in Michigan and Brown County in Wisconsin.
 

  • Develops, reviews, and maintains trust policies and procedures.
  • Directs and oversees T&WM Department & employees 
  • Maintains and grows customer relationships through business development and active participation in the community.
  • Understands technical, regulatory, and procedural requirements of their position, the industry, and the region.
  • Interacts with customers to promote services including estate planning, financial management and investment services.
  • Creates a positive work environment in the department where all staff are motivated to do their best.
  • Sets and tracks clear, meaningful, challenging, and attainable goals for T &WM Employees and expectations that are aligned with those of the organization.
  • Preparation and presentation of reports to Board of Directors

Qualifications
Required

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, economics, law, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in trust, fiduciary, wealth management, private banking, investment management, or a closely related field, including significant experience serving high-net-worth individuals, families, estates, trusts, and institutional clients.
  • At least five years of experience with responsibility for leading a trust or wealth management department, business line, or similarly complex financial services function.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of trust administration, estate settlement, fiduciary account management, investment management, financial and estate planning, and applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Experience overseeing fiduciary risk, regulatory compliance, internal controls, audits, examinations, account reviews, policy development, and complex fiduciary decisions.
  • Demonstrated success developing and executing business strategies that produce sustainable asset growth, revenue growth, client retention, operational effectiveness, and profitability.
  • Experience leading, developing, and retaining a team of trust officers, wealth advisors, administrators, and support professionals while establishing clear performance expectations and accountability.
  • Strong business-development capabilities, including the ability to cultivate relationships with clients, prospective clients, attorneys, accountants, financial professionals, community leaders, and other centers of influence.
  • Experience managing departmental financial performance, including budgets, fee structures, staffing, vendor relationships, and performance metrics.
  • Ability to provide clear, concise, and credible reporting and recommendations to executive management, board committees, and the Board of Directors.
  • Exceptional judgment, integrity, discretion, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to make sound decisions involving complex fiduciary, financial, legal, and client matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through organizational change, integrate teams and processes, and build a collaborative, high-performance culture across multiple locations.



Preferred

  • Certified Trust and Fiduciary Advisor designation, or the ability to obtain it within an established period after hire.
  • One or more additional relevant professional credentials, such as J.D., CFP, CFA, CPA, or an equivalent advanced trust, estate-planning, investment, or financial-planning designation.
  • Advanced degree in law, finance, business administration, accounting, taxation, or a related discipline.
